NHRC Seated Buddha Statue - Badulla
NHRC Seated Buddha Statue - Badulla
(SKU: LSB1002FE5) This statue was found near Badulla in Sri Lanka, and it is presently being exhibited in the Colombo National Museum. Researchers have determined that this hollow cast Buddha figure made out of bronze is 54.5 cm in height and dates back to around the 6th century A.D. The statue of Buddha depicts an expression of preaching or teaching dhamma since it is seated in the Virasana posture. The right hand represents the Vitarka Mudra, which is held in a slightly higher position (argumentation gesture). The left hand assumes the Katakahastha position as it holds the robe's gathered pleats. The Buddha is shown to be focused throughout his preaching by maintaining an erect posture and having wide-open eyes.
