Safari in Sri Lanka

Sri Lankas’ amazing wildlife sanctuaries offer an unprecedented view of raw Mother Nature. The variety of species found in them are one of the largest in the Asian continent. The fourteen wild life parks of Sri Lanka is sanctuary to 86 different species of mammals as well as birds and reptiles. Large herds of wild elephants form the center of attraction. Among the predatory animals, the leopard steals the limelight. Among the other predatory animals are sloth bear, jackal and mongooses. Primates such as common Langurs, endemic macaque, purple faced leaf monkey and shaggy bear monkey roam amidst the woods in huge troops.

National Parks of Sri Lanka

National parks are a class of protected areas in Sri Lanka and are administered by the Department of Wildlife Conservation. National parks are governed by the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance of 1937 and may be created, amended or abolished by ministerial order.

Sri Lanka has many National Parks and some National Parks are busy and densely populated. Among them Yala, Udawalawe, Minneriya and Kaudulla are special.

Udawalawe National Park

Udawalawe National Park is a popular wildlife sanctuary and national park located in the southern part of Sri Lanka. It covers an area of approximately 308 square kilometers (119 square miles) and is situated in the Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces. The park is renowned for its diverse range of wildlife, especially elephants, and it offers an excellent opportunity for safari adventures.
