Erythrina variegata is a large quickly grown tree 27 m tall, with smooth yellowish gray bark. The leaves are triplicate and bright green in colour. The brilliant scarlet flowers Inflorescences erect, to about 30 cm long are produced when the branches are bare of leaves hence the name “coral tree”.

Its medicinal purposes are found to be many. The bark is a remedy against biliousness, and is useful in eye diseases. The inner part of the bark, coated with ghee, and held over a flame, forms a fine soot, used for watery eyes.

Uses as treatment for Worm diseases, Epilepsy, Fever, Coughs, Rheumatoid arthritis, Dysmenorrohea, Infertility, Constipation, Dysurea,Ear diseases, Insomnia, Swellings, Wounds.

It is also good for relieving abdominal pain during menstruation in women. It does a great job in repairing bruises and fractures in the body.

It is also a good remedy for mental illnesses such as epilepsy, insomnia, forgetfulness, and frequent urination.
